Sharing and Using Data

This last week we took our STAR reading test. This test gives the students a designated independent reading level. We take the test about four times a year. It is great to watch the students grow and it really helps drive my instruction with small groups, book club and more.
Every month I also print out a record of the students past quizzes. However, this month I decided to print their quiz record for the last trimester. I wanted the students to look at their quizzes, highllight the quizzes they did not pass, and add them all up together to identify the amount passed, the amount not passed, and find their class average. I then wanted them to use this data to make a visual or graphic that represents their independent reading for the month.
I guided the students through the use of a free site called Easel.ly.
I then had them discuss with their group members what they did to get to that point or what they may need to do to improve for the next trimester.
Below, I have posted a few images of the student's work.
