Happy Valentine’s Day from Room 17!

For some reason Valentine’s day always seems to be the craziest school holiday. The students are so excited to pass out their goodies and share the love. I like to hold our exchange at the end of the day. It gives the students something to look forward to and there is less temptation to munch on sugary treats for the entire day.

So the question is, how do I fill up the day with fun, engaging activities that support our Common Core Standards with all the excitement pumping through their little bodies? I immediately thought…. CENTERS!

I love using centers in my classroom. We rotate through in our small groups, working on each center for about 15 minutes. The centers that we are working on are all ELA Common Core based and have a Valentine’s Day theme. Some of the centers involve writing, some are strictly sorting, and some involve working on their Chromebooks. The students use their group norms and accountable talk during the rotations work time. It really is a great time and the students are learning the entire time!
