Word Problems

This week we are working on word problems involving adding and subtracting fractions. With such a high population of English learners in our class, we really have to take our time breaking apart a problem. I used to find that my students would rush through a problem and miss a key piece of information here or there. I believe I have found a way to keep the kids more focused on the problem by following the C.U.B.E.S. steps.

Using these steps the students are asked to underline, box, and circle different items before they begin to solve the problem. Here are some examples of student work below!
