Today I introduced the idea of making connections to my students. My kids tend to make connections everyday. When ever they are reading or we are having a discussion they tend to say "This reminds me of...." or "One time that happened to me!" Today we put a formal name on it! Specifically we talked about Text-to Self connections. I started the lesson by read a classic book called " Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People's Ear." This is a great book to read to students when they hit that gossiping stage! After we read it we discussed if something similar had ever happened to them. After talking and sharing with our shoulder partners we went back to our seats.

Each student was then given a slip of paper that they would fill out regarding making a text-to-self connection with a character in the book they were reading. The responses are awesome! I will post of few below.

We will continue to work on connection and fill up our board next week when we go over text-text and text-world connections!
